Appearance: Nova isn't small, but she isn't very big either. Nova has a slight build with slender shoulders and slim legs. Her paws are slightly larger than normal, which help her climb better, and her snout is relatively short.
She has grey grizzled fur with a red copper collar of fur around her neck. The tips of her ears are grizzled, as are her legs, face, and most of her tail, though some of her undersides are the same red color as her neck. She has a white muzzle and tail tip, and four black socks. Her eyes are a steely blue, with oval pupils, like the rest of her species.
She has a large scar on the right side of her neck, and various smaller scars on her right side of her body from an otter attack. The smaller scars are hidden by her winter coat during the colder months, but the neck scar remains visible to all.
The Heart
Personality: Nova's a night fox. She enjoys the moon and the cool air that comes with life after the sun goes down. She likes to hunt nocturnal animals, including owls in the trees, given their small enough.
Her favorite foods are actually not meet, but berries. Wild blackberries, actually. She hunts these with a fierce passion whenever she's out without a purpose.
Nova is a very determined vixen, easily motivated to her goal. Even when her goals lean more toward the selfish side rather than selfless, she will help a fellow fox if she deems that creature worthy.
This vixen is hot-headed and can very easily be instigated enough to cause a fight. If the case she does end up in a fight, she relies on her small build and speed to dodge hits and land blows on her opponent. She prefers nipping heels and tails until her opponent is out of energy to make her final move.
Virtues and Skills: Nova is a skilled climber and can climb a tall tree in a matter of moments, for whatever cause.
One thing Nova has taught herself is to swim, though she doesn't prefer water unless she's drinking it.
Nova is a good runner and can chase prey down at a fast pace, her wide paws and sharp claws digging into soil to give her move leverage and propulsion.
Faults and Weaknesses:
She is prone to heating up too fast and jumping into fights. She can't easily control her anger, taking her a considerable amount of concentration to calm herself.
Nova hates water. She fears drowning, even if she has taught herself to swim, the nightmares of river torrents dragging her to the riverbed still haunt her.
Her lack of strength keeps her from being able to tackle her opponents head on, making her depend on her lithe and agility instead.
The Bygones
Brief Bio: Nova was born with two brothers, with only her mother as their parents. She grew in a normal life of foxes, in a den dug out of a tall oak tree from an old owl nest.
By the time she was four months, she was fully grown and skilled at hunting. All of her family was still at the home nest, with no prospects of leaving each other. Her mother seemed content having all three of her kits with her for the rest of her natural life. Nova, however, was growing more and more curious with the world.
Nova began to wonder what was out there, and she was becoming more annoyed with her two brothers, Zaphod and Samson. They stayed at home, still batting at each other like week-old kits while their mother still hunted for them. Nova helped, hunting with her mother, but she was tired with the way her brothers treated her mother.
Soon, she realized the only reason she stayed was to help her mother. But not long after, not even that would continue to root her to the old oak tree.
At ten months of age, Nova and her mother, Sky, went for a night hunt by the river that ran through their territory. She hunted water vole and the occasional fish there. Sky was known to dive in and manage to grab a fish with excellent timing, a trick Nova was still working on, but slowly getting.
Sky had just gone into the water. Nova was just about to follow, seeing a silver flick of a fish scale just below the surface about to come into range when she picked up a scent. It was strong and musky, almost singing the inside of her nostril: Otter.
She looked back in the water, attempting to call for her mother, but her voice was gurgled out by the rush of the water. The flick of silver she had seen turned out to be something more menacing, an otter.
A spot in the center of the river began to churn and red reflected from the bright moonlight, and Nova dove in. The water was cold and fast, hard to fight the closer to the top you were.
Nova spotted Sky sinking to the bottom and raced to get her, ignoring the fiery burn in her lungs, driven by the scarlet trail rising up from her mother's body and the cold icy chill in her blood.
As soon as she grabbed Sky's scruff, her heavy weight almost dragging her down until she managed to adjust to the extra body, something heavy and bulky rammed into her shoulder, making her cry out in a painful gurgle and drop her mother.
The otter had come back.
Nova went back toward her mother, and a sharp pain bit into the side of her neck, another, larger weight latching onto her, claws drilling into her body as the otter grabbed onto her and began to tear away.
Nova desperately tried to shake the beast off, and by chance slammed the otter into a rock, leaving it to momentarily let go, enough time for to get out of the water. She made it out and passed out on the side of the river bank.
When she awoke, sore, tired, and grieving, she left her territory, not bothering to send word to her brothers. She feared for her life for a while, sleeping heavily for days at a time before she finally began to heal, thankfully avoiding infection.

The moon was bright and full and every star was twinkling bright in the darkness of midnight. Nova could feel autumn was coming fast, and that meant only one thing for her: Berries were ready to eat!
The vixen stretched her body along the long branch of a hemlock tree, her claws gouging into the rough bark. The heavy pine scent mingled in the air, making Nova sigh in content. Tonight was a lounging night, the young vixen decided, lay back down on the limb of her hemlock, enjoying the cool breeze against her fur.
